Yogurstory is yogur-yummy

YAY YAY! Best friends @ Yogurstory:

There's a cute, new-to-me restaurant in town called Yogurstory. I saw a comment about it on a friend's fb and was interested the moment I saw the name. Yogurstory? Did someone forget a 't' at the end of yogur? I googled it. Nope, that's the name. Ok, you got me interested. What do they have and what's it all about? I looked it up on my yelp! app and there were mucho mixed reviews. It seems you either love it or you hate it there. Yogur's (faster to write than Y-O-G-U..oh you get the point) serves supposed fancy breakfasts and gourmets lunches daily from 7am - 9pm. So let's cut to the chase..I found an excuse to try it out. A girls brunch with my long time friends...who btw are very interested in food...and good food too! No one else had heard of it but me so they were all interested to see what was up.

Ok, arrival: I was a little late so those dears waited for me by the door. Hmm, it took then about 2 good minutes to seat us and they were not over-the-top busy. *note to self: service is slow. They did have a nicely reserved table for us by an awesome looking homemade tree. *+++ for that. (reservations for 6 or more btw) Waitress came and explained and we were all staring at the menu already wondering what to eat. Eggs Bennedict for me, my all time fave and one of the reasons I chose this place. A funkier Egg Benn. for our guest of honor, "b-day girl." Saw their super special "pigout fried rice," a signature dish that can be "oinked up" by adding 2 over easy eggs and a whole portuguese sausage! mmmm, oink us up! We shared. Red velvet waffle and.....a turkey croissant sandwich with salad????? My girl JB, that health nut...what a sweet nut she is. Ok, and then the total non-vegetarian orders the mozarella, basil, tomato omelette???? Ok, let's give it a whirl. FFWD>>>food takes a little too long...* ---. Finally comes out and it is soooo pretty. * back to ++. I take a bite of my eggs Benn...YUM! Lemoney just how I like it and tasty. Oinked fried rice? Nothing special, even with the pork adobo they bragged that was inside. Times Fried rice is waaaaay better than this! Red velvet waffle: ono but slightly dry. mozarella, basil, tmato omelette: thumbs down, no taste. Other EB: grindz!

So all in all I can see how this place is a hit or miss. They need to get their cuisine down a little better and service needs to go way up. ***3 stars from me. Try it when you come to HI!

gees I'm back already!

Well dang I'm sorry to you all for being away for like almost a year. A lot has happened. I now have a 9 month old and dang if I'm not knocked up again with the 3rd one. My 3rd boy is due on July 3. So on this crazy journey of SAHM-ness (SAHM = Stay-at-home-mom for all u singles) I've been running errands around town noticing these bright shiny lunch trucks everywhere. For this very reason I joined Yelp! and downloaded the Yelp! app to my iPhone as well, so that I could find these crazy new trucks and EAT their grindz. Watching Food Network (I really do get a lot of housework done guys, promise) I've noticed the huge phenomenon that Food trucks have become everywhere. They even have trailer parks of them in Texas. Well Hawaii has had lunch wagons for forever but now they're going high tech baby. The 3 that I'm interested in are Food Trip Phillipino food, Gogi Korean Taco Truck and Melt. mmmmmm.
Let's start with the some MELT action! I've read a little about this truck and my mouth is watering to taste it. They're supposed to be serving up some super ono types of grilled cheese. And their pastrami's supposed to be the sh*t! Who knew you could make a lunch truck just by serving gourmet grilled cheese? Brilliant!

Next...Yobo say yo baby! The Gogi Korean Taco Truck. These guys have marketed themselves like no other lunch truck on this island. I mean everyone and their mom seems to know about and has eaten at this truck. So they open at around 11:30 M-F. I wanted to try it so bad I sat in their parking lot @ 1639 Kapiolani for half an hour with a sleeping baby just so I could get a taste of this popular eatery. i had 1 tofu and 1 chicken taco. $2 a pop. I'll tell ya right now like I did on Yelp!. The sauce on those tacos was winnerz. The seriously fresh ginger and flavors were kickin it in my mouth. But when it came to the shell, a plain old corn tortilla from the grocery store just doesn't do it for me. I give em a 8 for the salad and the tofu and chicken were amazing. But the tortilla killed the mojo on that one. Still worth trying and I hear the fries are onoz so I'll be back Gogi guys, don't worry.
Ok and finally I will tell you about Nana's awesome Food Trip truck if you can tell me WHERE THE HECK SHE IS NOW! Sorry, emotional adobo breakdown. You see Nana is missing...well her truck is from her usual spot behind Servco Lexus on Kawaiaha'o that is.

In my first trimester I was desperate for Phillipino food one day and somehow by luck (thank you Jesus!) I stumbled upon this quiet little food truck. Adobo!! Pancit!! She had all of the 2 foods I knew of on the menu and it smelled freekin' awesome. I ordered me a plate of it and I've been hooked ever since. The pancit is super tasty and the Adobo has all the vinegar and garlic I need for a good dose of baby heartburn. Yeeah! But alas I cannot find my Nana so if you see this truck please tell Nana I am looking por her. Salamat!

Alright, my mouth is officially watering @ 10:30 at night. More to come so stay tuned!

The Best Acai bowl EVER!

I'm lately obsessed with acai bowls for breakfast or lunch. After taking my kids to the park with my dearest friend Sarah she suggested we stop at a place called the "Health Bar" for some grinds. It's in Kapahulu in a tiny shopping center in the back of Kapahulu on the corner of Kana'ina and Monsarrat....
From the outside I thought it was a health food store but little did I know the awesome wonder I was about to sink my tastebuds into. There's not a lot to look at inside either so you're not missing much there. However, once you try this acai bowl you will be hooked....forever!

Behold!!!! THE MANA BOWL...This heavenly and healthy contains: blended frozen acai, mixed berries, strawberries, bananas, granola and honey and bee pollen. That's it! Who knew a wanna-be goji berry from the Amazon could taste so awesome. I mean sooooooo AWESOME. The granola they use is scrumptious and they put just enough honey and the acai taste is perfect....mmmm, I wanna go get one right now.

If you listen to radio in Hawaii....as Taka would say," Looks Onoricious!"

I'm definetly into eating...I'll never be rail thin, darn

I had been hearing about the awesome little bakery, "Hokulani Bake Shop." And cupcakes are the new couture in cake lately so I decided to try them out for my BFF's wedding shower. This was the most awesome cupcake...or even cake for that matter. I ordered the Guittard Chocolate with chocolate frosting. It just explodes with the most awesome chocolate taste in your mouth. And there are even these tiny little chips of chocolate in the cake itself...and the frosting...I want a tub of it to smother on my eggs and steak even.
These are the cupcakes that I had made for Kalani's 3rd birthday. The frosting on top is meant to look like fire cause his theme was fire trucks. They did a pretty good job. I ordered 30 and gave out 20 and my husband and I loved them so much that we horded the last 9 for ourselves.....mmmmmmmm-mmmmm!

This is a random thought: I love it when I buy something and it is filled to the top. It's always these little things that make you happy. We bought this honey and when I went to take off the freshy-seal it was full to the top and I felt satisfied that I got my money's worth. Thanks honey!

So once I opened the honey I had to make my favorite power breakfast!
Greek Yogurt Num-Num:
1/2 cup plain Fage greek yogurt (preferably o% fat)
3 large strawberries cut into small chunks
big handful of your fave granola (Quaker rocks or "Eating Right" brand from Safeway)
small handful of raisins (if you like raisins)
big drizzle of honey over the whole thing
TADA!

DO SOMETHING AWESOME AND FUN TODAY!

A place of our own

Alright, so as I was saying my little family and I will be moving into this cute little house very soon. However we are in the process of debating whether we should demolish this house (sniff) or stay in it for a couple months before we get our loan...and then demo it. It is quite cute and just the right size for us...unless we have more kids (not in the plan but you never know).

So above is a pic of the full front, except you can't see the garage. It needs to be torn down cause it's full of termites. Hawaii's full of these little munchers, they just love how exotic we are and the climate is just right for them to breed...ewwww.

Here is a view of the side yard. Needs lots of work. But those little flower beds are so inviting.
A view of a beautiful day (ignore the power lines). The sky is telling me it's gonna be a great beach day (only 5 minutes away, life sux for me right?).

The inside is next to come. See you soon, hopefully tomorrow.

Dreaming out loud

Stumbled upon my dream home the other day in Hawaii Home & Remodeling magazine. A beautiful little cottage that was just re-done in Lanikai. So small the pic, sorry cannot help it.
I love open floor plans and just the breezy look of the whole place.

Check out this huge deck...if I have that I'll invite you all over to play. Sigh.

Open celilings? I mean are you trying to make me drool? Funny that things like this make me so happy eventhough it's not mine. White is so refreshing and clean...oh wait, I have 2 boys, not clean for long.

and drool all by yourself.
My family and I are going to be moving soon into our own little Kailua cottage and possibly remodeling.....can they build me another one like this? We shall see...and so will you. I'll be posting pics of the house and all the hard blod, sweat and tears of work that my mom has put into it...very soon...after the kids go to sleep :)

PLEASE EAT THIS!

So I'm currently on a major post-partum diet to shed the baby weight from my recetly birthed baby named Mikela (Hi Mikela, momy's blogging). This past weekend I was ravaging for something healthy to eat in Kailua, my hometown and decided that I would try out the acai bowl at this little (NOW TOTALLY FAMOUS CAUSE OF OPERA AND LOST) juice spot called "Lanikai Juice." I know these "acai bowls" been around for a while but I only recently let the juicey, sweet, frozen mountain of purple yumminess into my life recently cause I thought it would be too sour for my precious tastebuds..SO NOT....in fact,SO AWESOME! The combination of the frozen acai with granola, honey, bananas, berries, coconut, and even some coconut milk in there....talk about orgasm! And it's actually good for you??? Well yeah, it's actually called a "superberry" filled with mondo amounts of anti-oxidants and those fatty acids that are so good for you.

Lanikai Juice is only in Hawaii (good for me, bad for you if you not here). But they have 2 locations: Kailua (Paradise) and Kahala (rich people nomad land). PLEASE EAT THIS!
